Consumer Fireworks 2008
Residents of Canberra can enjoy traditional fireworks in their own backyard over the Queen's Birthday long weekend in June.
This is the only time of the year when members of the public are legally allowed to use fireworks.
Only approved consumer fireworks (which are approved by the ACT Government) can be sold (by licensed people) or used lawfully over the long weekend. Approved consumer fireworks have a restricted discharge area and they do not contain explosive substances that create a loud bang. This ensures that a colourful display can be enjoyed with a minimum likelihood of disturbing or endangering people, animals or property in the community.
There are strict rules about how fireworks are supplied, bought and used.
The following information has been prepared to assist both traders and members of the Canberra community to understand these rules:
- 10 tips to help Canberrans understand the laws relating to the purchase of fireworks and to realise their responsibilities in the discharge and enjoyment of fireworks

NOTE: Consumer fireworks cannot be used if a total fire ban has been declared for the Australian Capital Territory.
