Births, Deaths & Marriages
The Births, Deaths & Marriages Unit registers birth, death, marriage, adoption and change of name events that occur within the Australian Capital Territory, and provides certificates of those events upon application to appropriately authorised persons. Our records relate to events that have occurred since 1930. Records prior to 1930 were registered by New South Wales.

Parking
Parking operations conducts the regulation of parking conditions across the ACT, and Parking Review manages the processes associated with the dispute of parking notices that have been issued.

Fair Trading & the ICRC
The ACT Office of Fair Trading assists and protects the community through the administration of Fair Trading legislation and the registration and compliance of businesses in specific industries. The main objective of the Office is to provide information to consumers to make them informed and confident when making purchases. The Office's general enquiry number is 6207 0400.

Rental Bonds
The Rental Bonds Unit is responsible for the receipt and management of the residential tenancy rentals bonds for the Australian Capital Territory. The main areas of activity include refund of rental bonds, referral to the Residential Tenancy Tribunal regarding disputes over refund of rental bonds, transfers of rental bonds between properties and the training of real estate agents on the requirements of the Rental Bonds Office.

Land Titles
The Land Titles Unit is responsible for the registration of transactions with land in the Australian Capital Territory under the Land Titles Act 1925. The Unit also provides an on-line search facility for approved subscribers to search registered crown lease, title, plan and encumbrance information.

WorkCover
ACT WorkCover's core business is to administer, implement and enforce legislation covering occupational health and safety, workers' compensation, dangerous substances and labour regulation. In doing so, ACT WorkCover aims to achieve an ACT community where compliance with workplace legislation is embraced as an integral part of all work activity.

Business & Industry Licensing
The Business and Industry Licensing Unit provides a broad range of registration and licensing services to the ACT community, including:
Registrations: business names, real estate salespersons, credit providers, finance brokers, vehicle repairers, brothels and escort agencies.
Permits: liquor permits, tourism wine permits, non-profit organisation wine permits, outdoor cafe permits, vehicle verge display permits.
Licences: charitable collections, agents (real estate, stock & station, business, employment, travel), 2nd-hand dealers, pawnbrokers, hawkers, vehicle (dealers, wholesalers, market operators), liquor, tobacco, X18+ films, consumer fireworks, security (masters, trainers, employees).

Office of Regulatory Services
The Office of Regulatory Services (ORS) was formed out of a 2006-07 ACT Government budget decision to provide a single coordinated approach to regulation and enforcement of a number of activities previously provided by several areas of government.
The ORS undertakes licensing, registration and accreditation, dispute resolution and consumer and trader assistance, compliance and enforcement/litigation, and education.
Our vision is to strive to be a professional and efficient point of contact between the community and a range of regulatory and support services undertaken by the Department of Justice and Community Safety on behalf of the ACT Government.
