The matter will be investigated and you will be notified of the result in writing. If you are successful, the infringement will be withdrawn and no further action will be taken. If you are unsuccessful, you will be advised of the payment requirements and that you have the option of having the infringement proceed before a Magistrate.
If a person who has been issued with a parking infringement notice believes that they have grounds for the infringement to be withdrawn, they may write and request a review by the Parking Review Office.

The person responsible for the parking infringement is the registered owner of the vehicle.
If you were not the driver at the time of the offence, you can nominate another person as responsible for a Parking Infringement Notice.
If you wish to nominate a person other than the registered owner as responsible for a Parking Infringement Notice, or if the vehicle has been sold, stolen etc. you will need to complete a Statutory Declaration regarding the circumstances.
A Statutory Declaration must be received by the Authority (Parking Review) within 28 days of the date of service of the infringement notice or, if a reminder notice has already been issued, within 28 days of the date of service of the reminder notice.
You may also advise Parking Review that you are responsible for a Parking Infringement Notice incurred when you were not the registered owner of the vehicle concerned. (A Statutory Declaration is not required when admitting liability).

In person - Payments can be made in person at Canberra Connect Shopfronts or an Australia Post office.
If full payment of the penalty, or a letter disputing the parking infringement, is not received within 28 days from the date of service, a reminder notice will be issued for payment of the penalty plus an administrative charge will be applied.
If payment of the penalty plus administrative charge, or a letter disputing the infringement, is not received within 28 days from the date of service of the reminder notice, the Road Transport Authority will commence action to suspend your driver licence, vehicle registration, or if you are licensed interstate, your right to drive in the ACT.

No. You will not lose demerit points as a result of a parking infringement notice. Parking infringement notices do not result in a conviction or a criminal record. However failing to pay a parking infringement notice – and failing to address the matter at the Magistrates Court - could well result in ongoing legal concerns.
Please note - Parking Review has responsibility for review of issues involving private parking areas such as parking structures in shopping malls when A.C.T .Government Parking Infringement Notices are issued.
Parking areas on the grounds of the Australian National University are controlled by the University and have a separate legal and enforcement structure.
