The Office of Regulatory Services (ORS), in conjunction with other States and Territories, is participating in a national initiative against travelling con-men.  New powers provided under the Australian Consumer Law allow the ORS to target travelling con-men and work towards eradicating their unlawlful practices.

The ORS is advising the A.C.T. community to be suspicious of people who:

• knock on your door unexpectedly;
• offer cheap deals for 'today only';
• ask for cash up front;
• offer to drive you to the bank to get money for payment; or,
• pressure you to accept their offer.

The ORS will be targeting con-men in relation to home improvements/home renovation services, particularly where performed by unlicensed tradespeople.
