On 1 January 2011 the Australian Consumer Law commenced. It aims to protect and empower consumers and ensure fair trading around Australia.
THe Office of Regulatory Services is one of several consumer protection agencies responsible for ensuring that businesses do the right thing under this law. The other agencies involved include each state and territory consumer protection agency, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission and the Australian Securities and Investments Commission.
