INCORPORATED ASSOCIATIONS

Associations are responsible for the annual reporting of their status to the Registrar-General in accordance with the Associations Incorporation Act 1991.

Associations, or not for profit organisations, may apply to the Office of Regulatory Services (ORS) for incorporation in the ACT under the Associations Incorporation Act 1991. The incorporation of Associations provides the  public record of the financial affairs and status of an association, and of changes to its key personnel.

Incorporation provides associations with legal status and places certain obligations upon them, including establishing and maintaining their public record.  to this end, incorporated associations are required to lodge with the ORS annual financial statements, notification of changes to their committees, public officers and registered offices.  Associations are also required to notify the ORS when they resolve to change their name, amalgamate with another ACT incorporated association or to voluntarily wind up.

Certain documents held by the ORS  are not available for public scrutiny, including correspondence between this office and proprietors of business names, although they may be available under the a request via the Freedom of Information Act 1989.
